/ei/, /ai/, /au/

I was at the bank the other day and spoke to an officer who could only seem to pronounce the diphthong /ae/. She pronounced the word "eight" with the diphthong /ae/, among other things.

I think this was because she was from a Chinese school and so did not get much pronunciation practice.

Ever since that day I have started listening carefully to the way people pronounce things.

I have noticed that not all students with a Chinese school background have problems with the diphthongs. I noticed that certain consonant clusters are a more obvious problem. I shall look into the matter further.
